Maureen was already making a difference.
As Director of Caring Friends in South Africa, she showed up every day with compassion and commitment. She worked tirelessly to serve her community, bringing energy and heart to everything she did. But she knew there was something more she could learn—a deeper way to connect and collaborate.
Then she joined the Community Health Ministry (CHM) course through the Meros Africa Network—and her impact multiplied.
“I learned to slow down, ask questions, and truly understand others’ perspectives before offering solutions,” Maureen shared. “This shift in mindset has transformed the way I collaborate.”
The “learning tree” tool particularly resonated with her, providing clear guidance on building partnerships rooted in respect and shared goals. But the real transformation showed up in her work.
Maureen coordinated this massive effort—bringing together donations, printing resources, food contributions, and school partnerships—all guided by the collaborative principles she learned in CHM. Girls and women who once felt shame now experience dignity and freedom.
“The support and fellowship I experienced in the course has strengthened my boldness in expressing my faith while serving others,” Maureen said. The network of Christian collaborators she gained through CHM—including encouragement from Alicia, Jennifer, and fellow participants—has become a vital source of strength.
But here’s what excites us most: Maureen isn’t stopping there. Empowered by the confidence, skills, and community she gained through CHM, she’s planning to start her own women’s empowerment organization within the year.
