Harmful alcohol and other drug use is a barrier to health and wellbeing in Zambia. Limited treatment options and minimal education leads to high rates of alcohol abuse passing through generations. Based on a cultural and social understanding of alcohol, this study will test a screening tool for alcohol use used by community health workers in rural and semi-rural areas. You will spend 3-6 months in Zambia work with researchers from the University of Zambia and pastors from the Lutheran Church of Central Africa to collect data from community health workers and pastors regarding the feasibility, acceptability, and effectiveness of an alcohol screening tool connected to a church-based recovery model.
